Have you noticed that hair grease is making a comeback in the Natural Hair Community? If you haven’t, then it’s time to pay attention!
Most of us grew up getting our hair greased with Blue Magic, Royal Crown, and Dax by mama, grandma, big sis…. you get the point. Then we decided later in life to go back to our God-given hair, we also began following an extensive list of Natural Hair Rules.
- Wash/Co-Wash hair weekly
- Deep Condition weekly
- Protein treat hair monthly
- No Sulfates
- No Parabens
- No Petroleum
And the list seems to go on and on from there.
But wait a minute? Wasn’t petroleum on that list? Yes, indeed it is! If you look at the first ingredient in most grease out on the market, it’s normally petroleum. So, why are Natural Hair Care Companies beginning to include grease in their product lines if petroleum is such a no-no?
Well since the Natural Hair Community and manufacturers of Natural Hair products are more educated in our hair and skin needs, than 20 years ago, it makes sense. Think about it. We all now know we can’t just grease our scalps and think actual moisturizing is happening! If you don’t know, now you know. Water is the #1 key ingredient to use to moisturize our scalp and hair. Locking in that moisture next! Also, regular clarifying of your hair and scalp is a required!
If you are regularly and properly hydrating your hair and scalp, BEFORE applying anything else, grease shouldn’t be an issue! Especially when companies like Crème of Nature is including Argan Oil in its Natural Hair product line.
Argan oil – It’s a wonderful oil that has 3 times the amount of vitamin E in it, and is chock full of Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids. It is so moisturizing, that petroleum becomes an afterthought!
When I posed the question: Is Hair Grease making a comeback? To the Trendsetter’s Insights Community on naturallycurly.com , and based on the conversation following my video, June 2017 Curlbox featuring Crème of Nature!! The consensus was that grease was not an issue. Some people never stopped using grease. Others thought their hair grew longer and retained more length with grease. Now remember, grease may not be for everyone. Do what works for you. If it works for you great, and if it doesn’t, it’s okay. There are plenty of other products out there to meet your natural hair needs.
So, there you have it! What are your thoughts on using hair grease? Do you think hair grease is making a comeback as well? Let’s keep the conversation going. Share this blog post with friends, family, and co-workers. Don’t forget to subscribe, and I will talk to you later!
